About San Diego Youth Symphony and Conservatory

For more than 75 years, San Diego Youth Symphony and Conservatory (SDYS) has been helping to foster the next generation of San Diegans through music. Our flagship ensemble program in Balboa Park is complemented by our neighborhood engagement collaborations and early childhood music curriculum, making us the most comprehensive provider of cradle-to-college music education in the region. We are also a national leader in innovative community outreach, with thousands of young musicians and their families taking part in our programs each year. At SDYS, we celebrate the success of all our youth participants, both as musicians and as members of our community. We aim to provide them with the social, emotional, and academic skills they need to thrive in the 21st-century workforce. Through our programs, we are investing in the future of our young people, and look forward to seeing their accomplishments in the years to come.

ChIMES
ChIMES is the San Diego Youth Symphony’s early childhood music program for children ages 0–5 and their parents/caregivers. San Diego Youth Symphony is a non-profit organization that has offered quality music education programs and enriched lives through music for over 75 years. We believe that music is a vehicle for giving young people the social, emotional, and academic skills that transcend traditional educational models and prepare them to enter 21st-century adulthood.

Music Discovery Early Childhood Program
Music Discovery is SDYS’ newest early childhood program, tailored specifically for children ages 5-7 who have yet to start formal music training or lessons on a specific instrument. The program is designed to support and enhance school readiness, and builds on children’s previous musical experiences, such as participation in ChIMES.
