About Musically Minded Academy in Oakland, CA

Established in 2007, Musically Minded Academy is a non-profit corporation offering a unique music education program and an empowering environment for students and teachers to connect. At Musically Minded Academy, we strive to provide students with the best music education possible, giving them the tools to not only master their instrument but also to express themselves and build self-confidence. Our unique programs are designed to create a stimulating learning environment with close student-teacher relationships. Our mission is to foster creativity and build community through performance based music education. We believe in fostering a supportive and nurturing environment for our students, so they can experience success every day. This is why Musically Minded Academy has become a respected and admired institution, providing excellent music education programs and a close-knit community for all our students.

BeAKid
The Academy Program

The “Academy Program,” our flagship program, is one of three programs we offer at Musically Minded. This program allows students to enroll in private or small group weekly lessons online or in-person with quarterly hybrid in-person/online performances. We welcome families and teach multiple genres and instruments. This program is for 1:1 up to 1:3 instruction on the same instrument for all students. For students who are not sure which instrument they want to take, or who have never taken any music lessons, we highly recommend starting in our Live Ensembles Program in the Newbie Notes Class.

BeAKid
Live Ensembles Program

Instrumentalists, join us for our Live Ensembles! These classes are mixed in age, level, and instrumentation. Choose between Jazz and Classical music. Each class is co-taught by two instructors and supported by multiple teaching assistants. This team collectively plays most instruments and can help customize the level and participation of each student. Most classes are 2 hours to build skills, work on repertoire, and prepare for performances. There are built-in break times to eat and socialize. Musically Minded has a philosophy of “People first, Music Second” and believes music thrives in healthy communities. Join and experience a safe space for students to learn while building social connections, a family-like atmosphere, and a welcoming, supportive community for each participant where parents, grandparents, guardians, etc., are welcome to participate and build a healthy community where students feel like they belong.
