Beginner Classes

Beginners are welcome to start at any time! At Encinitas Fencing Academy, we believe that beginners can learn best by participating with and watching advanced fencers. As well, advanced fencers working with beginners can learn a lot by being mindful of demonstrating foundational skills with excellence. So, instead of isolating beginners, we encourage them to participate with advanced fencers as they learn the basics. It is recommended that brand-new fencers start with an introductory lesson before joining class.

Youth or Adult Classes

All of our classes are mixed-ages. One of the greatest aspects of fencing is that it is a lifelong sport - a sport anyone can participate in well into old age. Younger fencers can benefit from the experience and steadiness of older students, and older students can be pushed by the energy and enthusiasm of younger fencers. We mix the ages of our classes so that all students can benefit from the experience that is brought to class by each other student.

Private Lessons

Private lessons are 1-on-1 sessions with a single coach that focuses on students' specific needs and progresses them through our curriculum of fencing skills. Here, students will have the chance to bring up specific problems, discuss future goals and practice habits, and work through fencing skills at their own pace. Coaches have the chance to provide specific and personalized solutions to problems as well as guide students to verbalize and push towards their goals.
