The camp is located in the beautiful San Bernardino National Forest and is one of the first fully accessible camps in the United States. A special use permit granted by the San Bernardino National Forest allows us to operate and we are fully accredited by the American Camp Association. The name Camp Paivika was chosen by the campers themselves. In the language of the Cahuilla Native Americans, the word “paivika” (pronounced pi-vee-ka) means “dawn.” This reflects a new dawn of welcome, acceptance and inclusion and is a perfect name for this incredible camp.
Camp Paivika is dedicated to providing unforgettable experiences for campers with mild to severe developmental and physical disabilities such as autism, ADHD, cerebral palsy, epilepsy and Down syndrome. Our highly trained and caring staff provide a safe, exciting and nurturing camp environment. We provide a wide range of activities tailored to the individual needs of each camper. From swimming in the lake, to arts and crafts, to star gazing, every camper can find something they love and enjoy doing.
Camp Paivika’s Summer Program, consisting of multiple sessions from June through August, is packed with morning-to-evening fun! Campers are grouped with peers and assigned to specific schedules. Each day brings new opportunities to play, share interests, make new friends and meet challenges.
