PRE - KARATE (AGES 4 - 6)

This class will focus on creating a positive and fun experience for your young one. Students are taught the fundamentals of our art such as blocking, kicking and punching and grappling. Students learn to focus and channel their energy, gain balance and coordination, all while developing self-confidence. We strive to keep a balance of working hard and having fun. Something you will often hear our instructors tell the students is “Have fun, but don’t be funny”. We know that kids must have fun in order to stay interested, and we strive to keep that balance.

YOUTH PROGRAM 1 (AGES 6 - 9)

This class focuses on developing our art in a way that is palatable for this age group. This means we must instill good habits of work ethic, while at the same time making sure the kids are having fun. We teach striking, grappling, falling skills, and self defense in this class. We teach how to deal with bullies and strangers, with a focus on empowerment rather than fear. We want our students to be able to walk with confidence because of the REAL skills that they have developed. We also teach the importance of respect and focus- as we know that these skills will be important for the rest of their lives.

YOUTH PROGRAM 2 (AGES 8 - 11)

This class is sometimes referred to as our “intermediate” class. Not because of the skills that are needed to attend, but because of the level of focus required and pace of class in general. Having said that, don’t worry- we have new students starting in this class all the time. With a minimum of 3 instructors in every class, we are able to keep our student/teacher ratios very strong and give the newer(and older) students all of the attention that they need and deserve. In this class students learn a more detailed approach to the body dynamics associated with martial arts. They will learn striking and grappling so that they can learn to be effective in self-defense in the various fighting distances. Students will also learn the importance of a strong work-ethic, how to be patient, and how to have a positive attitude when dealing with challenges. As always, we strive to keep a balance of hard training with light-heartedness and camaraderie. We know that kids must enjoy the class in order to stick with it, and our goal is to keep our students training hard for a lifetime.

YOUTH PROGRAM 3 (AGES 10 - 14)

This class is sometimes referred to as our “advanced” class. Having said that, new students are always welcome! Years ago we realized that 12yr old kids don’t really want to work out with 6 and 7 year old’s (nothing against you 6 and 7 year old people out there!). This age group needs to be challenged in a different way in order to stay interested. With that in mind, we always make sure new students get the step-by-step help that they need in order to succeed. We always have great student/teacher ratios in our classes and this class is no different. We also find that our more experienced students learn so much by setting the example for our beginner students. We encourage our students to socialize more in this class (don’t worry, they still work hard) because we know that is important for this stage of development. Students will learn effective striking, grappling and all around self defense in this class. The pace can be challenging, but we know that when students struggle together they create bonds that can last a lifetime. We teach respect, discipline, and leadership in this class. We want our students to be respectful and full of the type of confidence that comes from hard work and a feeling that they did something difficult and came out stronger for it!
