For over 145 years, the Madison Public Library’s commitment to education, literacy, and community involvement has made a positive impact on the City of Madison. Our home for over 30 years has been the Overture Center (previously the Madison Civic Center). At CTM, education is at the heart of what we do. Our year-round program enrolls 1,100 students per year, and includes classes for pre-K through grade 12. We also partner with Goodman Community Center and Lussier Community Education Center to provide free after-school theatre classes to children from lower-income families. Through this, students develop a sense of pride in their accomplishments, a stronger sense of community, and an appreciation for literacy. Our two in-school residency programs, Young Playwrights and Young Playwrights for Change, provide an opportunity for high school and middle school students to showcase their new works annually at the Young Playwrights Festival. CTM is an anchor partner of the Madison Youth Arts Center, a 65,000 sq.ft. facility that provides a permanent home for both CTM and Madison Youth Choirs, as well as space for other local youth arts organizations at an affordable cost.
