In an enchanting corner of the mighty state of Texas, where cowboys still roam and barbecue sauce runs like rivers, there exists a band of brave kids known as the "Equine Adventurists." Their trusty steeds are not your average horses. These are Texan horses; they're as tough as a longhorn's hide and as swift as a jackrabbit on hot sand.

Among them is a comical character, Jimmy "Jangle" Jones. Jangle, as everyone calls him, is an affable lad with freckles splattered across his nose like a constellation of stars. He's got the kind of laugh that could spook a coyote and a wide-brimmed hat that has seen more sunsets than a saguaro cactus.

Every morning, with the sun barely peeping over the horizon, Jangle would hop onto his horse, a frisky chestnut named Biscuit. Biscuit had a mind of his own, often deciding to follow a butterfly or chase a tumbleweed, much to Jangle's hilarious exasperation. But when it came to racing, Biscuit ran like the wind, leaving dust in the faces of those who dared to challenge him.

These horseback riders from Texas loved their thrilling adventures. They splashed through creeks, galloped over hills, and even once chased a rainbow, hoping to find a pot of Texas-style chili at the end! Each day ended with a retelling of their escapades around a cozy campfire, under a sky sparkled with a million stars. 

Despite all the fun and laughter, these kids knew horse riding wasn't merely a game. It was about forming a bond with their horses, learning to respect nature, and understanding the true spirit of Texas. And of course, the occasional tumble in a cactus bush was just part of the fun!

Welcome to Heart O' the Hills, a distinctive sanctuary brimming with the delights and customs of a traditional summer camp experience. This private girls' summer camp caters to young ladies aged 6-16 and is the pride and joy of the Ragsdale family who own and operate it with absolute dedication. We warmly extend an invitation to you to become part of this extraordinary environment, abundant with merriment, education, and the enchanting essence of youth-filled summers.

At Heart O' the Hills, we have meticulously designed our program with an emphasis on fostering personal growth and character development. Our mission is to empower girls with self-confidence, promote teamwork, and nurture leadership skills. Moreover, we strive to champion individuality, motivation, and resilience. We are more than just a summer camp; we are a nurturing community, dedicated to encouraging personal growth and development.

Our camp offers diverse 2- and 4-week overnight sessions, packed with over 50 instructional activities. We seamlessly blend traditional camp activities with unique ones, from English and western horseback riding, Red Cross swimming lessons, a variety of team and individual sports, to archery, riflery, tennis, cooking, fencing, rock climbing, video production, and wilderness survival. We take immense pride in our friendly, competitive Sisterhoods and uphold a strong tradition of etiquette. Heart O' the Hills is more than just a camp. If you've ever had the privilege of spending your summer at El Tesoro as a camper, a counselor, or contributing in any other role, your presence at our upcoming events will help us commemorate and honor the cherished history of our beloved camp. We're planning to share stories, photos, and precious memories spanning nine decades, and we'd be thrilled if you joined us. The Camp Fire Camp El Tesoro, established in 1934, has been a welcoming haven for generations of campers, with its iconic swinging bridge being a memorable landmark for many.

El Tesoro, which translates to "The Treasure" in Spanish, is a 223-acre sanctuary nestled between Fall Creek and the Brazos River in Granbury, Texas. Our camp offers a breathtaking panorama of the serene river and the vast open spaces of the blackland prairie. Our natural terrain and indigenous landscape offer our visitors a much-needed respite from the hustle and bustle of the modern world. This idyllic oasis currently hosts co-ed overnight campers, day campers, grief campers, teachers, students keen on learning about nature, and groups seeking to foster connection and indulge in outdoor adventures.

In 2010, Camp Fire First Texas launched a Capital Campaign aimed at renovating and upgrading the facilities at Camp El Tesoro. This initiative is essential to ensure that the enchanting spirit of the camp continues to be enjoyed by future generations. We're committed to preserving and enhancing the magic of Camp El Tesoro, enriching the lives of campers for many years to come.

For over 50 years, Frontier Camp has been dedicated to making disciples of Jesus by sharing God’s Word amidst the beauty of His creation. Since our founding in 1969, we’ve been licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services and are proudly accredited by the American Camping Association. We’re also a member of the Christian Camping and Conference Association.

Our mission is to use Christian camping and outdoor recreation as a means to support local churches in fulfilling the Great Commission—evangelizing people of all ages and discipling believers toward deeper maturity in Christ. Frontier Camp offers a dual ministry: during the summer, we host a 10-week youth camp, and throughout the rest of the year, we serve as a retreat facility for churches and like-minded religious organizations. Whether through summer camps or retreats, our goal remains the same: to expose people to Christ and encourage their spiritual growth through His Word and by reflecting His character in everything we do. While we provide top-notch recreation and exciting programming, the heart of our camp is the spiritual impact, rooted in the truth of God’s inerrant Word.
