Hunting Island, or Long Island as it is also known, is a place steeped in history and legend. It is thought to be at least 25,000 years old, originally inhabited by the indigenous Seewee Indians. The Seewees are said to have welcomed the first English settlers to the area by swimming to the ships and carrying them to shore. This impressive welcome was so inspiring that some of the Seewees reportedly even attempted to paddle to England in their canoes, although all were sadly lost in storms at sea. The only other inhabitants rumored to have lived on the island were the pirates, who reportedly buried their treasures in the deserted dunes and woods. Unfortunately, none of these treasured have been found as of yet.

In the summer of 2009, Ric Wagner and Lauren Foxworth, his niece, made a dream come true. Together they opened Ultimate Gymnastics Academy in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Since January 2011, UGA has been operating at its current location. Lauren had always wanted to own a gym, and Ric was her mentor from a young age. Reflecting on their decision to open UGA, Lauren said, “Together I knew we would make a good team.” The combination of Ric and Lauren’s expertise has resulted in many college gymnastics scholarships for their students. The Boys' Gymnastics Competitive Program (BGCP) offers three levels of competition - Xcel, Compulsory and Optional. Each level is designed to ensure a positive and safe learning experience for all of our athletes. At BGCP, we strive to ensure that each gymnast is placed in an environment that is both appropriate to their age and maturity, and allows them to reach their full potential. This is why placement and advancement within the BGCP is based on a variety of factors, including coach-ability, work ethic and attitude, physical strength and flexibility, parental support and communication. The BGCP staff will evaluate the progress of each gymnast throughout the season, and may adjust their level of competition if they feel it is necessary. All placement and advancement decisions made by the BGCP staff are final.
