Once upon a time, in the sunny state of Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweeping down the plain, a group of spirited kids embarked on a boating and canoeing adventure. This wasn't just any old state, you understand, it was OK! Good old Oklahoma, or as some mischievous folks liked to call it, ‘The Land of the Crazy Red Dirt!’ You see, the soil in Oklahoma is so red, it could make a tomato blush! These sparkling-eyed kids, brimming with energy, were part of the ‘OK Float-Your-Boat Club.’ Leading them was a funny character named Captain Chuckles. Now, Captain Chuckles wasn't your everyday, ordinary captain. Oh no, he was a laugh-a-minute, big-bellied beaver wearing a captain's hat. That's right, a beaver! And he was as Oklahoman as the red dirt itself. Under the watchful eye of Captain Chuckles, the kids learned to paddle their boats and canoes through the tranquil waters of Oklahoma’s lakes and rivers. Everyday, they'd gather around the Captain, their giggles bouncing off the water's surface, as he told them wacky tales of the 'Great Beaver Boat Race’ or the ‘Loony Canoe Carnival.' The children loved nothing more than the feel of their boats gently bobbing on the water, the warm Oklahoma sun on their faces, and the sight of Captain Chuckles, with his big gnawed wood paddle, leading the way. They splashed, they laughed, they raced - it was a wet and wild world of adventure! And through it all, Captain Chuckles taught them that in Oklahoma, and in life, having fun is OK, making mistakes is OK, and most importantly, being your unique, wonderful self is more than OK, it’s perfect!

The J.D. McCarty Center's camp is perfect for kids aged 8 to 18 who are looking for fun and adventure. With two cabins, an activities building and an 11-acre lake, the camp offers plenty of exciting activities to choose from. Horseback riding, archery, arts and crafts, swimming, scavenger hunts, fishing and canoeing are just a few of the thrilling activities available. Plus, campers can look forward to a visit to a local water park on their last day! Talent shows, dance parties and stargazing are just some of the other fun activities planned for campers. Located on the hospital's campus at 2002 E. Robinson St. in Norman, this camp is sure to provide a unique and special experience for kids of all ages.
