New York, a state as colorful and lively as a well-used paint palette, sparkles on the canvas of the United States. It's not just skyscrapers and hot dog stands - it has a heart full of nature, with green mountains and glittering lakes, where the deer and the chipmunks play hide and seek. And, the kids in New York, oh boy! They're artists with the spirit of Picasso and creativity of Van Gogh, and a dash of New York energy.

Right in the middle of all this hustle and bustle, you'll find a hoppity-skippity fellow named Doodle the Art Squirrel. Doodle, with his vibrant tail that changes colors like a chameleon, is the creative guide for our young New Yorker artists. Sporting a beret and a twirly mustache, he hops from tree to tree, rooftop to rooftop, carrying his bag of magic art supplies. 

He visits kids who love to dabble in art and crafts, helping them create masterpieces beyond their wildest dreams. He adds a touch of color here, a sprinkle of glitter there, and voila! Each craft is a unique creation. Doodle is also known for his comic antics that make every art session as fun as a roller coaster ride. He might accidentally dip his tail in the paint and end up creating an abstract art piece on the floor, or maybe he'll glue googly eyes on his beret without realizing. 

Oh, the laughter and the fun these New York kids have with Doodle! They play, they paint, they explore, and their imaginations run wilder than a New York minute. Their artwork is as vibrant and diverse as the state they live in - a splatter of colors and a splash of joy.

And we certainly can't overlook the aspect of relaxation! Here at Crafts Zone, we set aside 10% of our time to simply unwind and recharge. We fully endorse the therapeutic effects of crafting and are firm believers in the stress-relieving properties of creative expression. So, come and soak in the serene, artistic ambiance. The hard work and dedication of Mel Northrop, Colin Caldwell, and Stephen Smith to start a summer Bible camp for children paid off in July 1952 when the first Camp Li-Lo-Li opened at Allegany State Park. Despite the fact that these three men had never run a camp before, their passion for the ministry inspired them to learn the ins and outs of running a camp and they succeeded in their mission. The camp was named by 11-year-old Betty Carol Northrop in a naming competition and stands for Life-Love-Light, all attributes of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Since 1955, families have trusted THE MOUNT TOM DIFFERENCE to create lasting memories and foster positive youth development. Each group is led by an experienced, professional educator who spends the entire camp day with your children. Sky Lake is one of five camp and retreat centers owned and operated by the Upper New York Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church. This camp and retreat center is part of the Camp & Retreat Ministries. It is supervised by The Executive Director of Camp & Retreat Ministries and overseen by the Committee on Camp & Retreat Ministries. At Sky Lake, visitors are encouraged to grow in their relationship with God, be the body of Christ within the world, and live in accordance with the example of Jesus Christ. 

Sky Lake provides a unique and meaningful experience for visitors, providing them with engaging, equipping and empowering activities. Through these activities, visitors are encouraged to build relationships with their neighbors, especially those who have been disenfranchised by mainstream society. Since 1927, the JCC of Binghamton has been a vital part of the Broome County community. Located south of the University Plaza, the JCC is a dynamic institution, enriching the lives of all ages through its wide variety of services. At Camp Kehilla, we prioritize the unique needs of each and every camper. Our camp is designed to make the traditional summer camp experience available to those with special needs, providing a customized experience for children ages 5-21 with developmental disabilities, Autism spectrum disorder, and/or other neurodevelopmental conditions. Our approach combines the fun of typical camp activities such as swimming, arts & crafts, and sports with evidence-based social facilitation techniques to create a comfortable and supportive environment. With a flexible structure that allows each camper’s individual strengths to shine, our campers have the opportunity to make lasting friendships and develop social skills.

We are thrilled to introduce Kara Hallett as the new Camp Director at 4-H Camp Owahta! Hailing from Warren Center, Pennsylvania, Kara fondly remembers the summers she spent attending camps at El Rancho de Paz (now Mapleridge Ranch) and Montrose Bible Conference. 

One of Kara's favorite memories from camp is playing four square with her two older sisters in the gym. She was so excited for her first year at camp that she even fell asleep on the gym floor!

We are confident that Kara will bring her enthusiasm and dedication to 4-H Camp Owahta, and we are excited to have her join the camp's leadership team. We can't wait to see what amazing experiences she will create for the campers this year!
