Led by their quirky, humorous leader, Sir Brush-a-Lot, these kids were known across the skyscrapers, from Brooklyn to the Bronx, for their extraordinary painting prowess. Born with the innate ability to transform anything into a canvas, these kids painted stories that made the Big Apple even more vibrant. Sir Brush-a-Lot, a jovial giant with hair that rivaled the cotton candy at Coney Island, had a paintbrush for a mustache. He could create a rainbow in a New York minute and had the unique talent of using hot dogs and pretzels as paintbrushes. His laughter echoed down the broad avenues, often causing the Statue of Liberty to blush with joy. The Rainbow Rebels had the power to paint the town red, or blue, or green, or any color they fancied that day. They painted murals on the city walls, turning them into enchanted forests, filled with unicorns and dragons, or a bustling cityscape with taxi cabs flying high above the Empire State Building. The kids held their brushes like knights brandishing their swords, ready to conquer the world one canvas at a time. And though they might have painted over each other’s shoes or accidentally given their dog a new coat, they created masterpieces that made New York City the most vibrant city in the world. What began in a humble New York City apartment with just a single student, Spark, has since blossomed into an enriching program impacting thousands of children. Our unique educational approach combines the elements of art, yoga, meditation, and nature to create a holistic learning environment. With an array of offerings to accommodate various schedules and needs, Spark has something for everyone. Our services extend beyond the standard after school and weekend classes to include holiday and summer camps, birthday parties, portfolio preparation, private classes, and custom pods. We also welcome homeschool groups and are thrilled to announce the recent addition of a forest school program to our repertoire. You can find Spark on-site in various schools and at our main studio located in the Upper West Side. But we're not stopping there - we're also planning to expand to the Upper East Side and Brooklyn. For our families in Pennsylvania, we run the program from our family studio there. And if you're not in close proximity to any of our locations, don't worry. We offer in-home instruction and virtual options to ensure that Spark can reach you, no matter where you are. Our programs blend literacy, imaginative play, and design thinking to increase reading interest and skill. Creation stories along with tales of conquest and cultural tradition provide the context for our after-school and summer camp engagements where we journey through stories to help children understand themselves, our history, and our world. Our story began with, well, a story. Challenged by fans of The Percy Jackson and the Olympians book series, we set out to create a real-world version of the fictional training ground for modern-day heroes of Greek Mythology; Camp Half-Blood. Armed with no small amount of courage we set out to create a space for the stories kids love to live rich, full lives beyond the pages of the books. Eight years and three programs later we have served nearly 3,000 children with our unique brand of reading enrichment. Expanding the boundaries of the creative class is an important part of our mission and must include kids from the widest variety of families and circumstances. Our latest project, The Daedalus Initiative gifts students in Title 1 schools with science kits and other materials to further their knowledge and interest in STEM.
