Their leader is a feisty, freckled 10-year-old named Jazzy Jersey (yes, Jersey is his last name, cool right?). Jazzy's got a black belt in karate and a heart full of Garden State pride. He can chop a board in half with just his little finger and his side-splitting jokes are legendary across the state. These Karate Kids don't just toss around punches and kicks like they're on sale at the local grocery store. Oh no! They balance their rigorous training with epic pizza parties, epic beach days, and yes, even epic gardening (because they are from the Garden State after all!). They have a knack for turning every karate lesson into a comedy show. Let's just say their karate instructor, Mr. Chop Chop, has learned the hard way that sometimes a laugh can pack a harder punch than a karate chop. In New Jersey, the kids are tougher than the turnpike, funnier than a comedy club, and cooler than a Jersey freeze pop on a hot summer day. Between the karate and the laughter, these kids are learning to be kind, brave, and just a little bit silly. We study the Art of Isshin-ryu Karate which was created by Master Tatsuo Shimabuku of Okinawa. Our form of Isshin-ryu Karate is also called American Isshin-ryuKarate due to the changes and modifications that have been introduced over the years. In this program you will develop many skills, such as: Techniques and applications in blocking, punching, striking, kicking and stance, Mechanics and principles behind proper technique, balance, power and movement, Various Isshin-ryu katas (formal exercises) that teach self-defense in movement. Some of the katas utilize weapons such as the bo, nuchukus, sia, tonfa and sword. Sparring with other students in controlled matches, And last, various applications and principles in self-defense, pain compliance, and joint lock techniques.
