Led by their fearless leader, Purl the Piney Puffin (who, contrary to popular belief, is not a bird, but a mischievous and endearing girl with a puffin-like laugh), they gather in tree forts, lighthouses, and the cozy corners of local lobster shacks. Bursting with creativity as vibrant as a sunset over Acadia National Park, these youngsters wield their needles like knights brandish their swords. With a swish of their thread, they transform ordinary fabric into extraordinary creations. A polka-dot octopus plushie? No problem! A quilt that could rival a kaleidoscope? Challenge accepted! Purl and her team aren't just sewing for the fun of it (even though it is a stitch of a time). They use their craft to solve problems, too. Lost a button on your favorite coat? KOMTA is on it. Need a costume for the annual Lobster Festival Parade? They're your go-to crew. DEBUT Creative Center & Theater-Studio is a dual-language (English–Russian) program where kids explore creativity, confidence, and self-expression. From theater and dance to fencing and stage performance, children can try new activities and discover their unique talents. Small class sizes let instructors give each child personalized attention, helping them feel comfortable, supported, and confident as they learn. Kids build artistic skills while also developing social confidence, teamwork, and poise on stage and in everyday life. Our programs celebrate each child’s individuality, combining fun, hands-on experiences with a focus on personal growth—all while keeping Russian language and culture an important part of the curriculum.
At Summer Camp, we understand the importance of providing a safe and supportive place for girls from low-income and foster homes. Our campers come from inner-city and rural areas and are aged 7 to 18. We give them the opportunity to take part in educational, challenging and fun activities, as well as to learn from positive role models. Our campers are also given the chance to build their skills for life in a place where everyone is celebrated for their diversity. We are a nonprofit and rely on the generosity of donors to provide full camperships each summer. Summer Camp is more than just a place to have fun! We are focused on creating a positive and encouraging atmosphere where all of our campers can thrive and learn. We strive to provide a safe and inclusive space that stands against discrimination and empowers our campers to grow and explore. We would not be able to do this without the support of our donors who help us give each girl the chance to attend our summer camp.
