In the magical land of Massachusetts, lovingly nicknamed MA by its inhabitants, there exist a special group of kids. These are not your ordinary run-of-the-mill children, oh no! They are part of an elite group known as the 'Icy Glide Tribe'. As the mornings dawn, they strap on their shimmering skates, their eyes gleaming with excitement, readying themselves for a day of graceful twirls and thrilling leaps on the glistening icy arenas.

Leading this tribe is Captain Frosty Toes, a cool imaginary character with a bushy snow-white mustache, who wears an enchanted top hat that never falls off, even when he's spinning like a tornado. He is a veteran ice skater, a legend in the world of ice skating, who has performed quadruple axels even in his sleep. As wobbly as a jelly on land, Captain Frosty Toes becomes as graceful as a swan the moment he steps on ice.

The kids of MA love him dearly, for he is not just a mentor but a jolly playmate who knows the best ice skating tricks and the funniest ice jokes. "Why don't mountains get cold in winter?" he'd ask with a twinkle in his eyes. Before any kid could answer, he'd burst into laughter saying "Because they wear snow caps!" Captain Frosty Toes and his 'Icy Glide Tribe' of young skaters, filled with laughter, adventure, and bruised bottoms, skate their way into the heart of Massachusetts, painting a picture of joy and unity that even the grumpiest of snowmen couldn’t resist smiling at.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Swift Nature Camp an overnight camp for boys and girls ages 6-15 located in the beautiful Northwoods of Wisconsin. 

 I’m Lonnie, the Camp Director, and I’m thrilled to share what makes SNC such a special place for kids and families alike. For nearly 30 years, our mission has been to create an environment where children can grow, discover, and make lifelong memories. Here at camp, we focus on friendship, personal development, and a deep connection to nature—all in a fun, supportive, and adventurous setting. All this without cell phones
One of the things that sets Swift Nature Camp apart is our focus on fostering independence and confidence. Whether it’s trying a new activity like canoeing, taking on a leadership role in a group project, or simply navigating life away from home, camp provides endless opportunities for personal growth. We celebrate each camper’s unique personality and encourage them to step outside their comfort zone in a safe and nurturing way. Seeing kids gain new skills and pride in their accomplishments is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.

For our youngest campers, Discovery Camp is an especially magical experience. Designed only for first-time campers ages 6-12, this shorter program gives kids a chance to experience the joys of camp life in a way that’s just right for them. It’s amazing to watch these kids try new things—from learning about the natural world to singing campfire songs—and leave camp with big smiles and even bigger stories to tell. Discovery Camp is often the beginning of a long and cherished relationship with SNC, and we’re so proud to see those first-time campers grow into confident and capable young people.

Another cornerstone of Swift Nature Camp is our connection to the environment. We believe that nature isn’t just a backdrop for camp; it’s a teacher, a playground, and a source of endless wonder. Through hands-on activities like pond studies, wildlife observation, and outdoor adventures, campers develop an appreciation for the natural world that stays with them long after camp ends. The Camp Zoo is always a favorite, campers can even adopt a pet while at camp.Our goal is to inspire kids to become curious, mindful stewards of the environment.

At Swift Nature Camp, there’s never a dull day! With hundreds of land and water activities, campers are always engaged and excited. On land, some favorites include the Lego Cabin, Arts & Crafts, Archery, and exploring the Nature Center. On the water, campers learn Canoeing, Fishing, and Swimming, but the absolute favorites are Tubing behind the boat and jumping off the Water Trampoline. Never is there a dull day because every day is packed with fun, adventure, and opportunities to try something new.
Of course, none of this would be possible without the amazing friendships that form here. SNC is a place where kids truly feel like they belong. Campers and counselors alike bring warmth, kindness, and enthusiasm to everything we do, creating a strong sense of community. Whether it’s cheering each other on during a game, collaborating on a creative project, or sharing laughs around the campfire, the bonds formed at Swift Nature Camp are something truly special.

Swift Nature Camp

Parents looking for a way to get their kids involved in a fun and challenging sport should consider the Pilgrim Skating Club Learn to Skate program. Located at Hobomock Arenas in Pembroke, MA, this program offers classes for children and adults ages 3 and up. Skaters are divided by level, from absolute beginner to more advanced, and will learn fundamentals of both figure skating and ice hockey. 

The program follows the Learn to Skate USA curriculum, endorsed by US Figure Skating and USA Hockey, and is taught by highly qualified, Learn to Skate USA certified instructors. Skaters will have the opportunity to develop both physical and mental skills, and potentially form a lifelong love of the sport. Whatever your skill level, the Pilgrim Skating Club Learn to Skate program has something for everyone.

Are you looking to get your kids involved in a sport that will foster leadership and teamwork? The Chelmsford Hockey Association (CHA) could be the perfect fit for your family. Founded in 1960, CHA is a non-profit, 501(c) youth hockey organization that serves families in the area. CHA provides a variety of development programs for kids aged 8-18, such as Learn to Skate, Learn to Play Hockey and In-House Hockey teams. Girls hockey is also available at CHA, giving your daughter the opportunity to join in on the fun. 

CHA prides itself on providing outstanding youth hockey programs for families in the area. Through these programs, kids can develop leadership and teamwork skills while having fun and getting active. With a variety of options to choose from, there is something for everyone at CHA. Give your kids the opportunity to learn the sport of hockey and develop as individuals with CHA.

Before you arrive:

    Adhere to all prerequisites and equipment requirements. Make sure helmets are labeled on the front with First Name - Last Initial.
    If your skater is a beginner, within the week before your class watch for a video on falling down/getting up and taking your first steps. Skaters must be able to do these on their own. Practice them with participants before arriving onsite.
    Read all COVID guidelines.
    Have the participant wear warm, comfortable layers that allow for movement. Long sleeves & pants, gloves or mittens are recommended. Little ones should wear waterproof items.
    Arrive 15-20 minutes early but please stay in your car
    Come as dressed as possible and/or dress/put skates on in the parking lot
    Use Self Check In. Log into your account from your mobile device within an hour of the program start. Click CHECK IN next to the program.

FMC Ice Sports has been working with the West Roxbury Community Center since 2006 to operate the arena. The Skating Club of Hingham was established in 1973 with the mission of providing figure skaters of all skill levels with the opportunity to learn and grow. As a recognized member of the United States Figure Skating Association and the New England InterClub Council, the club has been able to provide a platform for young skaters to reach their potential. Since 1948, the North Shore Skating Club has been a leader in the ice skating world.  Starting as an ice dance club at the Lynn Arena, the club has since grown to include recreational and competitive skating and has moved to Beverly, Danvers and Saugus before finding its current home at the Burbank Ice Arena in Reading, Massachusetts.  

The North Shore Skating Club offers something for everyone, with programs for all ages and levels.  Our Learn-to-Skate program is led by experienced, professional instructors and follows the standards set forth by the United States Figure Skating Association (USFSA).  Skaters can advance through the Basic Skills and Freeskate levels.  We also offer competitive skating and adult and open Theatre on Ice Teams.  With more than 100 club members and 600+ skaters in our Learn-to-Skate program annually, the North Shore Skating Club is the premier skating club of the area.
