In the effervescent state of Illinois, nestled between the thunderous roars of the Chicago skyscrapers and the whispering prairies, you'll find a bunch of adventurous kids with hearts as wild as the mighty Mississippi River. They are the Kayak Kapers, a group of fun-loving friends who've turned the calm, azure waters of Lake Michigan into their playground, conquering waves with glistening paddles and smiles brighter than midday sun.

Now, the Kayak Kapers aren't your ordinary kids. Nope! They are led by the charismatic Captain Quackers, a lovable and goofy duck with shades cooler than a snowman's bellybutton. With a beak as sharp as his wit, Captain Quackers' quack of command sends ripples of laughter across the water. With a flick of his feathery tail, he guides his human buddies through whirlpools of fun and waves of laughter.

The Kayak Kapers' journeys are filled with the thrilling twists and turns of the Illinois River, the laughter echoing through the lush riverbanks. Every paddle stroke brings a new story, a new adventure, and a whole lotta splashes! Whether they're racing under the cotton candy clouds or having a picnic on a secluded island, these kids know how to turn any day into an extraordinary escapade.

One moment they're mighty pirates, chasing the lost treasure in the belly of the lake, the next they're explorers, discovering uncharted corners of their beloved state. So, if you ever find yourself in the Land of Lincoln, make sure to keep an ear out for the quacking of a certain duck and the infectious laughter of the Kayak Kapers, the coolest kids in Illinois.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Swift Nature Camp an overnight camp for boys and girls ages 6-15 located in the beautiful Northwoods of Wisconsin. 

 I’m Lonnie, the Camp Director, and I’m thrilled to share what makes SNC such a special place for kids and families alike. For nearly 30 years, our mission has been to create an environment where children can grow, discover, and make lifelong memories. Here at camp, we focus on friendship, personal development, and a deep connection to nature—all in a fun, supportive, and adventurous setting. All this without cell phones
One of the things that sets Swift Nature Camp apart is our focus on fostering independence and confidence. Whether it’s trying a new activity like canoeing, taking on a leadership role in a group project, or simply navigating life away from home, camp provides endless opportunities for personal growth. We celebrate each camper’s unique personality and encourage them to step outside their comfort zone in a safe and nurturing way. Seeing kids gain new skills and pride in their accomplishments is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.

For our youngest campers, Discovery Camp is an especially magical experience. Designed only for first-time campers ages 6-12, this shorter program gives kids a chance to experience the joys of camp life in a way that’s just right for them. It’s amazing to watch these kids try new things—from learning about the natural world to singing campfire songs—and leave camp with big smiles and even bigger stories to tell. Discovery Camp is often the beginning of a long and cherished relationship with SNC, and we’re so proud to see those first-time campers grow into confident and capable young people.

Another cornerstone of Swift Nature Camp is our connection to the environment. We believe that nature isn’t just a backdrop for camp; it’s a teacher, a playground, and a source of endless wonder. Through hands-on activities like pond studies, wildlife observation, and outdoor adventures, campers develop an appreciation for the natural world that stays with them long after camp ends. The Camp Zoo is always a favorite, campers can even adopt a pet while at camp.Our goal is to inspire kids to become curious, mindful stewards of the environment.

At Swift Nature Camp, there’s never a dull day! With hundreds of land and water activities, campers are always engaged and excited. On land, some favorites include the Lego Cabin, Arts & Crafts, Archery, and exploring the Nature Center. On the water, campers learn Canoeing, Fishing, and Swimming, but the absolute favorites are Tubing behind the boat and jumping off the Water Trampoline. Never is there a dull day because every day is packed with fun, adventure, and opportunities to try something new.
Of course, none of this would be possible without the amazing friendships that form here. SNC is a place where kids truly feel like they belong. Campers and counselors alike bring warmth, kindness, and enthusiasm to everything we do, creating a strong sense of community. Whether it’s cheering each other on during a game, collaborating on a creative project, or sharing laughs around the campfire, the bonds formed at Swift Nature Camp are something truly special.

Beulah Camp

In 2010, Dan and Andy bought and invested $1 million in construction and renovation of Camp Manitowa Rend Lake. Since then, the 40-acre property has been hosting sleep-away summer camps, retreats, and festivals. It is the newest, freshest camp in the Benton area of Southern Illinois, and is located only 90 minutes from St. Louis, MO and Paducah, KY.

At Camp Manitowa, campers entering grades 2nd through 8th can benefit from a tailored 1 or 2 week residential camp program. This program is designed with younger campers’ needs in mind, and encourages the development of independence, self-esteem, cooperation, and problem-solving skills. Campers also have the opportunity to make lifelong friends in a small, nurturing community. The camp also offers structured free play and choice time, allowing campers to feel a sense of belonging and empowerment to learn.

In 2013, Camp Manitowa is offering week long specialty camps that focus on water skiing, magic, rock school, science, and the popular sport of Gaga. With its unique program and offerings, Camp Manitowa Rend Lake is a great place for campers to experience all the fun and adventure of a summer camp.

At Glacial Park, McHenry County Conservation District’s most treasured open space, outdoor adventure awaits. Over 3,400 acres of rolling prairie, delta kames, oak savanna and tranquil presence of the meandering Nippersink Creek make this destination a nature lover’s paradise. From fishing and birding, to biking and paddling, Glacial Park is the perfect spot for a day of exploration.

The park is home to over 40 state endangered and threatened plant and animal species, and is listed as one of the top five areas to view migratory wetland birds in the region. Over 64,000 guests visit the park each year to hike or horseback along eight miles of trails, bike a five-mile portion of the 26-mile Prairie Trail, or fish the shoreline of Nippersink Creek.

At the Lost Valley Visitor Center, visitors can enjoy changing exhibits, pick up trail maps and guide books, and check out upcoming featured programs, outdoor concerts or workshops. Self-guided exploration is also encouraged, with options such as the Glacial Park hiking app, the two-mile interpretive trail loop, or outdoor treetop decks equipped with binoculars, guide books, and viewing scopes. No matter your interest, a day at Glacial Park promises a unique and unforgettable experience.

At Camp Ben Frankel, we focus on creating a lifetime of memories for Jewish children of all backgrounds. Our leadership and staff are experienced and highly trained in providing a safe, welcoming camp environment, and we’re proud to be accredited by the American Camp Association. We strive to meet and exceed the expectations of our campers, parents, and staff. During the summer of 2021, we reopened our in-person camp and experienced no cases of Covid. 

In 2020, we launched CBF Online, our virtual summer camp program. It quickly gained recognition from the Jewish Telegraph Agency, The Forward, The Telegraph (UK), the St. Louis Jewish Light, and eJewishPhilanthropy. We partner with organizations like the Foundation For Jewish Camp, JCamp180, Jewish Camps USA, Life and Legacy, and Jewish Federations across the country to better serve our community. We are proud to have been presented with the JCamp180 Outstanding Board Leadership Award in October 2020.

At Camp Ben Frankel, our mission is to provide a lifetime of memories to Jewish children from all backgrounds. We create an inclusive and welcoming environment that invites exploration of identity. Our staff are trained in safety protocols, and we use best-practices, strategic partnerships, and an open-minded approach to develop programs and activities that meet our high standards. We are thrilled to have been able to offer both in-person and virtual camp in 2021 and look forward to continuing to provide high-quality programming for years to come.

For more than a century, the Y has been the go-to swim instructor for families across America. In today's day and age, research has revealed that if a child hasn't learned to swim by third grade, it's unlikely they ever will. Participating in formal swimming lessons is an effective way to decrease the chances of a child drowning. Knowing how to be safe around water is an absolute must for all families.

At the Y, we believe swimming is an essential life skill. Our swim lessons give kids of all ages the tools they need to stay safe and have fun in the water. Through our program, children not only gain the skills to be strong swimmers but also build their self-confidence. 

It's our top priority to ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn this critical life skill. We strive to provide a safe and supportive environment, so kids can gain the knowledge and skills they need to confidently navigate the waters.

West Cook YMCA

Celebrating its 65th anniversary this year, Camp Little Giant has been a beacon of inclusivity since 1952. It was the first camp in the nation designed specifically to serve campers with disabilities, and was the first camp to be accredited by the American Camp Association. The camp's mission of providing a safe and enriching environment for campers has set the standard for special needs camps across the country, and has even paved the way for the Special Olympics.

Camp Little Giant is dedicated to giving campers with disabilities a true camp experience. It offers traditional activities such as outdoor recreation, swimming, arts & crafts, and music & drama, and all activities are adapted to meet the needs of campers with disabilities. Through its commitment to inclusion, Camp Little Giant has been a leader in providing campers with disabilities an opportunity to enjoy all the benefits of a traditional camp experience. For 65 years, Camp Little Giant has been at the forefront of special needs camps, paving the way for the Special Olympics, and bringing joy and inclusivity to campers of all abilities.

It's an incredible resource for Cook County residents, providing a home to rare plants and animals, as well as plenty of opportunities to get outdoors and explore. With 62 million visits each year, the Forest Preserves of Cook County are a great way to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. From camping and fishing to biking and bird-watching, there's something for everyone.
