Since 1973, Darien Ice House has been an important part of the Darien, Connecticut community. Ownership of the rink has changed hands over the years, and is currently owned by the Romano family of Stamford and Michael Pavia, the former mayor of Stamford. The rink has a long history of hosting major events, including Olympic figure skating exhibitions, elite youth hockey programs and NHL player exhibitions, as well as local youth and high school programs. Today, the rink is home to the Darien Blue Wave boys and girls high school hockey teams, as well as the New Canaan Rams boys and girls high school teams. Darien Ice House also partners with the New Canaan Winter Club to offer boys and girls travel hockey programs, plus the Ice Cats girls travel hockey program. The Darien Skating School provides in-house learn-to-skate classes for all ages, while Blueline Sports, located inside the rink, offers major brands of hockey and lacrosse equipment and sharpening services.
