Every year, ONSC welcomes 3,000 students from public and private schools to explore the beauty and biodiversity of the Ozarks' natural environment. With their team of teacher naturalists, ONSC offers a unique, immersion-based approach to learning about nature and the natural sciences. Hikes and activities are tailored to meet national and state science learning standards, with in-depth education in biology, ecology, geology, and social studies. Students can explore the area, discover new species, and learn about the environment while having fun outdoors. Board Member Dean Skaer emphasizes the importance of relationships at the camp, encouraging campers to get to know their cabin mates and develop healthy relationships throughout their lives. The camp facility, staff, and AmeriCorps members become a second home for our campers. Parents can appreciate the lasting relationships the camp and its staff provide, as campers can return year after year, and may even become AmeriCorps, staff, or CITs themselves. We strive to create an environment that is safe, nurturing, and accepting of all campers, where they can build friendships that will last a lifetime.
