In the rolling hills and harmonious hum of country music that echoed through every corner of the beautiful state of Tennessee, lived a group of kids brimming with creativity, imagination, and passion for writing. They were not just your regular comic-book-reading, Saturday-cartoon-watching, bike-riding bunch. Oh no, sir! These young wordsmiths were a special group of adventurers, detectives, superheroes, and sometimes even aliens, who plunged into the world of words, spinning tales brighter than the Nashville skyline at night. Their secret leader was an otherworldly creature known as Wordy the Wacky Wombat. Wordy was no ordinary wombat. He had travelled from the magical land of Scribblotopia, journeying across galaxies, riding on the back of a shooting star to land in the picturesque regions of Tennessee. Wordy was as tall as a guitar, carried a magical quill behind his fuzzy ears, and had a belly rounder than the fullest moon. He had the power to turn any simple tale into an extraordinary journey with just a flick of his mystical quill. Every day after school, the kids gathered at the town library, where Wordy held his hilarious writing sessions. He could be as silent as a mouse lost in the world of books, or as loud as a chicken on a hot tin roof when excited about a new story idea. Together, they painted in the air with words, crafting stories that made the Tennessee sun rise in surprise, the Cumberland River giggle, and the Smoky Mountains blush with delight. These Tennessee tikes were not just kids, they were the vibrant voices of their state, spinning tales as colorful as the Tennessee rainbow.

For over 50 years, Frontier Camp has been dedicated to making disciples of Jesus by sharing God’s Word amidst the beauty of His creation. Since our founding in 1969, we’ve been licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services and are proudly accredited by the American Camping Association. We’re also a member of the Christian Camping and Conference Association. Our mission is to use Christian camping and outdoor recreation as a means to support local churches in fulfilling the Great Commission—evangelizing people of all ages and discipling believers toward deeper maturity in Christ. Frontier Camp offers a dual ministry: during the summer, we host a 10-week youth camp, and throughout the rest of the year, we serve as a retreat facility for churches and like-minded religious organizations. Whether through summer camps or retreats, our goal remains the same: to expose people to Christ and encourage their spiritual growth through His Word and by reflecting His character in everything we do. While we provide top-notch recreation and exciting programming, the heart of our camp is the spiritual impact, rooted in the truth of God’s inerrant Word.

At MTR we believe that all people have inherent and equal value from simply being made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). We recognize that educational outcomes are tied to markers of well-being such as health, income, and vocational choice/opportunities. As a result, we are dedicated to addressing the systemic inequities of education in Memphis so that class, age, ability, race, gender, religion, and other identity markers do not determine a person’s value. We are committed to creating a more equitable educational landscape in the city and honoring the dignity and worth of each and every person.
