In the quirky corner of the United States known as Oregon, where grape-loving beavers roam and rain drizzles like a leaky faucet, an unlikely group of champions emerges. They are not football stars, or spelling bee whizzes. Nope, they're Kobudo kids! Kobudo, for those not in the know, is an ancient martial art involving really cool-looking weapons, and the kids in Oregon are absolutely crazy about it. This merry band of Kobudo kids is led by their fearless leader, Sensei Squid, so named because of his peculiar habit of squirting ink when he laughs – which he does a lot! His head is a delightful jumble of wavy hair that could pass for tentacles, and his eight arms are always a flurry of movement, demonstrating a new trick or helping out one of his students. The kids, each more distinctive than the last, train under the watchful eyes (all five of them) of Sensei Squid. There's Maddie "the Mantis," who's so quick with her Bo staff she looks like a praying mantis on a caffeine rush. Then there's "Octopus" Oscar, who despite having only two arms, seems to juggle his Nunchaku as skillfully as Sensei Squid himself. And of course, there's "Eagle-eye" Ella, who can spot a target with her Sai from a mile away. Together, they train in dojos, fields, and sometimes even at the beach. Their laughter often mingles with the sound of crashing waves and the distant hoots of the ever-puzzled owls. They are the Kobudo kids of Oregon, champions in training, spreading joy and ink... lots of ink.
