In the wavy, wheat-filled plains of the Sooner state, Oklahoma, there is a tribe of young, energetic, and unstoppable warriors. They are not ordinary warriors, oh no-no-no, they are the Gaga Ball Champions of the universe! The fields become their arenas, the trees their spectators, and the bright blue sky their dome of glory. Imagine this, folks! A bustling, chattering group of kids, with twinkling eyes and giddy laughter, chasing a ball with the enthusiasm of a hundred prairie dogs on a sugar rush. They are as spry as squirkeys - that's a cross between a squirrel and a turkey, by the way - a creature you won't find anywhere but here in OK. The sprurkeys are the official imaginary mascots of these champs. Can you picture them? Good! Now, imagine those sprurkeys on roller skates. Even better? Excellent! Back to our warriors. These Oklahoma kids are sharp as tacks, nimble as cats, and wilder than any cowboy you've ever seen. Their faces are as red as the state's soil, not from sunburns, but from the sheer thrill of the Gaga Ball duel under the golden sun. The glorious game of dodge, strike, and roll, all while laughing and hollering at the top of their lungs like they've discovered a new flavor of ice cream. These kids, my friend, are the untamed spirit of Oklahoma. They are the brave-hearted, fun-loving, Gaga Ball gurus who have taken an ordinary game and turned it into an epic adventure. Watch them once, and you won't ever forget about the sprurkeys, the laughter, the joy, and the wonderful chaos of Gaga Ball in OK.

OU Health Harold Hamm Diabetes Center’s Camp Blue Hawk is dedicated to, serving children and teens living with type 1 diabetes through summer camp as well as year-long support programs. We create opportunities for campers to build their confidence, strengthen diabetes self-management skills and create long-lasting friendships. For many of our campers, this may be the only place they have to interact with other children who also have type 1 diabetes. 500 children with T1D benefit from Camp Blue Hawk annually. Our goal is that by attending Camp Blue Hawk programs, children and their families feel supported by community and confident in the daily challenges associate with type 1 diabetes.
