But don't be fooled! This concrete jungle is not just about flashy Broadway shows, giant pizza slices, and the iconic Statue of Liberty. Beyond the city's bright lights and towering structures, there are sprawling fields, serene lakes, and lush forests where the cool and courageous kids of New York engage in a thrilling activity - Riflery! Now, these aren't just any kids, oh no! These are the sharp-eyed, calm-handed, quick-thinking children of the 'Bulls-eye Brigade'. Captain Quack-a-Lot chuckles every time he tells their tales, his feathers ruffling with delight. There's 10-year-old Lily, who can spot a target from half a mile away, even without her glasses! Then there's the 12-year-old twins, Max and Maddie, who can assemble and disassemble a rifle faster than you can say "quack". And let's not forget young Jake, who despite only being nine, can hit a bullseye while doing a headstand! These kids are not just sharpshooters but also great adventurers. Imagine them deep in the heart of New York's lush wilderness, the only sound being the rustling leaves and the steady breaths as they aim their targets. It's not just about hitting the bullseye but also about learning patience, discipline, and respect for nature. The hard work and dedication of Mel Northrop, Colin Caldwell, and Stephen Smith to start a summer Bible camp for children paid off in July 1952 when the first Camp Li-Lo-Li opened at Allegany State Park. Despite the fact that these three men had never run a camp before, their passion for the ministry inspired them to learn the ins and outs of running a camp and they succeeded in their mission. The camp was named by 11-year-old Betty Carol Northrop in a naming competition and stands for Life-Love-Light, all attributes of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
