New Mexico is a state full of enchantment, with landscapes that look like they've been painted by the world's most talented artists. The brilliant blue skies, the fiery red deserts, the cool mountain peaks, and yes, the cheerleaders. Every day, in the small towns and big cities of New Mexico, you will find squads of cheerleaders practicing their high kicks, flips, and cheers. But these aren't your ordinary cheerleaders, oh no! These are the Kooky Kickin’ Coyotes of New Mexico. The Kooky Kickin' Coyotes are lead by a cool imaginary character, Coach Cacti Carl. Carl is a giant talking cactus who loves nothing more than teaching kids the joy of cheerleading. He wears colorful sombreros, has an infectious laugh like a coyote’s howl, and cheers louder than a rattlesnake’s tail. Little coyote cheerleaders, as young as five and as old as 15, gather in their cheerleading uniforms, ready to shake their pompoms and perform their heart out. They practice under the wide-open New Mexico skies, on grassy fields, in school gymnasiums, or sometimes even in the middle of a desert, with Carl leading the way with his prickly but friendly enthusiasm. These kids are brave, they're fun, they're energetic, and they're a little bit kooky, just like their state. They tumble and twirl with agility of Pueblo dancers, chant cheers with the spirit of the Rio Grande, and lift up each other in stunts as high as the Sandia Mountains. And even when they stumble, even when they fall, they bounce right back up, dust themselves off, and laugh because that's what Coyote cheerleaders do. They cheer, they charm, and they create a magical spectacle, a true testament to the enchanting spirit of New Mexico.
