Once upon a time, in the enchanting state of New Jersey, where the sunsets painted the sky with a palette of vivid colors and the scent of fresh bagels and pizza filled the air, lived an army of adventurous kids known as the "Jersey Jacket Monkeys." These weren't your ordinary bunch of kids though, oh no! They were the bravest rock climbers in all of the Garden State! Their leader was a quirky little character named Bungee Billy. With his freckled face, wild red hair, and a grin that could light up the Atlantic City Boardwalk, Billy was always the first one up the rock and the last one down. Billy wasn't much taller than a garden gnome and he had a voice that sounded like a kazoo, but when it came to rock climbing, he was as mighty as a flying superhero. The Jersey Jacket Monkeys whizzed up cliffs and mountains like ants on a sugar rush. They weren't afraid of heights, oh no! They laughed in the face of danger, as they climbed higher and higher, laughing and singing their secret monkey song. "Who's got the strength of a hundred ants? Who's got the courage of a lion's roars? Who climbs the rocks without any pants? We're the Jersey Jacket Monkeys, hear us roars!" Bungee Billy and his Jersey Jacket Monkeys didn't just climb rocks for fun. Every climb was a new adventure, a new journey into the unknown, and a new chance to crack up laughing at Billy's kazoo voice echoing through the New Jersey wilderness. At Helping Is Caring (HIC) Camp, we strive to give children with cancer and sickle cell disease a chance to just be kids for a week. Through providing them with a traditional camp experience, we hope to give them the opportunity to relax, have fun, and just be kids. Each summer we host four weeklong sessions for up to 350 children from over 15 different area hospitals. Our camp activities include activities like high ropes climbing, archery, swimming, sports, crafts, and even a “Cabin Wars” competition. Our medical team of specially-trained physicians and nurses is also on-site to provide 24-hour medical supervision and to participate in all camp activities. Our fully-equipped health center allows us to welcome even the sickest children, including those on active treatments, at serious risk of bleeding and pain crises, and with significant physical disabilities. At HIC Camp, our goal is to let children with cancer and sickle cell disease just be kids. We strive to provide a safe and fun environment for children to just be themselves and experience the joys of childhood. We believe that every child deserves the chance to just be a kid!

Designed for children who are apprehensive about attending a traditional sleep-away camp, the program allows campers to have a friend or family member accompany them for the day-only experience. This helps to make the transition into a sleep-away camp more comfortable for both the camper and their parents or guardians. The Nejeda Day Camp program was created to provide an opportunity for children with diabetes who may be nervous about attending a traditional sleep-away camp. It allows campers to have a family member or friend join them for the day to give them and their parents or guardians peace of mind. This provides a great introduction to sleep-away camping, while remaining in a comfortable and familiar environment. The program also offers a wide range of activities which are specifically designed to teach children with diabetes how to manage their disease in a fun and supportive atmosphere. The Nejeda Day Camp program is a great way for children with diabetes to gain the experience of a diabetes camping program without having to stay overnight. It provides the perfect introduction to sleep-away camping, allowing campers to have a friend or family member accompany them for the day to help make the transition more comfortable. With a range of activities specifically designed to teach children with diabetes how to manage their disease, it is the ideal way to ensure that all children can enjoy the benefits of a diabetes camp.
