Once upon a time, in the sprawling plains of North Dakota, a group of spirited, inventive children lived in the heart of a sunflower state, a place as tough, enduring and cheerful as the sunflowers themselves. Our tale begins with a particular band of kids, known far and wide as the "Sunflower Seedlings of Entrepreneurship." The leader of this bright-eyed brigade was a lovable, wacky inventor named Whizzgig Widget. With his wild hair that looked like a cornfield caught in a twister and round glasses that made his eyes appear large as Prairie roses, Whizzgig was an oddball, but an endearing one. He was known for his fantastic creations, from a popcorn popper that could broadcast movies, to a high-speed bison-drawn sleigh (don't worry, the bisons were only holograms!). Under the vast Dakota sky, Whizzgig and his merry band of Seedlings would gather in their barn-turned-innovation-lab, cooking up all sorts of imaginative business ideas. While their friends were competing in mud pie championships or racing atop hay bales, these quirky kids were busy patenting the next best potato peeler or devising business strategies for their lemonade stands. They were as busy as bees in a clover field, but they loved every minute of it. Everyone around marveled at their resourcefulness, and even the oldest farmers would tip their sun-bleached hats in respect. "Those kids," they'd say, chuckling, "Well, they've got more gumption than a gopher in a grain bin!" And indeed, the Sunflower Seedlings of Entrepreneurship, led by the unforgettable Whizzgig Widget, were the golden heart of North Dakota, full of ideas as boundless as their beautiful state's horizon.
