This group of kids, known as the "Stitch Witches", have a magical talent for turning simple cloth and thread into masterpieces that would make even the most skilled tailors green with envy. Our story begins in the heart of NC, where these crafty kids gather every Wednesday afternoon in the charming town of Threadville. They hop on their bikes, waving goodbye to the squirrels, the birds, and the occasional garden gnome, and pedal down to the old, creaky community center. In the center of the room, atop a royal purple cushion, sits their teacher and guide, Sir Seamster Squirrel, a dashing, velvet waistcoat-wearing squirrel with a monocle and an extraordinary mustache. Sir Seamster Squirrel, despite his small size, is quite the mighty maestro of the sewing world. He is so good, he can thread a needle with his eyes closed, standing on one tiny paw, balancing a thimble on his tail! The Stitch Witches listen attentively to Sir Seamster, their expressions full of awe and excitement. They laugh at his funny anecdotes about his adventures with needle and thread, gasp at his amazing sewing tricks, and cheer when he shows them a new stitch. Together, they create a symphony of laughter, learning, and love for sewing that echoes across the valleys and bounces off the mountains of NC, inspiring more kids to become part of this magical sewing circle.

Camp Illahee has been a place of growth and discovery since 1921, when Hinton and Francis McLeod established a unique environment for young women to thrive. The camp’s commitment to its campers is stronger than ever, with its current directors, Gordon and Laurie Strayhorn, continuing the legacy of the McLeods. Camp Illahee’s focus is always on the campers, and the Strayhorns are dedicated to making sure each camper feels recognized and heard. Nestled in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina, our campgrounds are only one mile away from the bustling town of Brevard, with a population of 7,000. With Asheville just a 40-minute drive away and Pisgah National Forest a mere 15 minutes away, our campers are sure to enjoy the many outdoor activities available. We provide plenty of programs for children between the ages 7 to 14, including Leadership, Aide, and Counselor-In-Training programs for older campers. Our staff make sure to keep our campers engaged and entertained with trips to the nearby attractions and activities.
