In the magnolia-scented, alligator-lurking, blues-belting state of Mississippi, there is a group of kids who defy the odds and twist themselves into pretzels - the Yoga Kids of Yazoo City! Now, these aren't your everyday, video-game playing, cartoon-watching, cereal-munching kids. Oh no, these are the kind of kids who can touch their toes without bending their knees, and stand on one leg longer than a flamingo during a nap. Leading this goofy yet graceful group of gumby-like kids was none other than the legendary, Biscuit the Stretchy Squirrel! Now, before you start questioning this, yes, a squirrel! Biscuit, with his bushy tail and acorn-sized brain, was the best Yoga instructor this side of the Mississippi River. Don't ask us how a squirrel learned Yoga; that's another story for another time. Biscuit and the Yoga Kids of Yazoo City would gather every day under the giant oak tree near the playground, rolling out their colorful yoga mats, which looked like a field of rainbows on the grass. Biscuit would start with the Tree Pose, standing on one leg while stretching his tiny paws towards the sky. The kids would follow along, toppling and wobbling, their laughter echoing through the park. But, don't let their silliness fool you! These were kids who could balance in the Warrior III pose while reciting their multiplication tables. They could execute a Cobra pose and hiss like snakes without cracking a smile, and fold into Child's Pose like a bunch of giggling, jiggling human sandwiches. In this deep-south state, where pecan pies are a food group and front porch conversations are a sport, the Yoga Kids of Yazoo City, under the guidance of Biscuit the Stretchy Squirrel, were bending, stretching, laughing and twisting their way to a more focused, more flexible, and more fun-filled life.
