In the far-flung, pine-scented, lobster-loving state of Maine, where the moose are big and the blueberries are bigger, a group of adventurous kids have found a hobby they adore. Right there, between the towering lighthouses and syrup-drenched pancakes, a crew of young fishing enthusiasts have taken to the crystal-clear, fish-filled lakes and fizzy, foamy rivers. Now, these aren't your everyday, run-of-the-mill kids. Oh, no! They're the Maine Marvels, often seen sporting waterproof boots, wide-brimmed hats, and grins as wide as the Kennebec River. Among the Marvels, there's a jolly giant named Big Bob. With hands as large as lobster traps, Big Bob can reel in even the wiliest of walleyes. Then there's Susie 'Squid Arms,' named so because she can cast a line further than anyone else, almost as if she had extra-long, squid-like arms. And don't forget little Benny 'Bait Breath' who has a weird knack for knowing exactly which bait to use to lure in the biggest fish. They spend their days casting lines and spinning tales, laughing as they reel in everything from tiny tadpoles to gigantic groupers. They’re not just fishing for fish, though. They’re fishing for fun, friendship, and the thrill of the catch. And let me tell you, nothing gets them giggling more than when Benny ‘Bait Breath’ tries to kiss a fish before releasing it back into the water. For over 50 years, Frontier Camp has been dedicated to making disciples of Jesus by sharing God’s Word amidst the beauty of His creation. Since our founding in 1969, we’ve been licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services and are proudly accredited by the American Camping Association. We’re also a member of the Christian Camping and Conference Association. Our mission is to use Christian camping and outdoor recreation as a means to support local churches in fulfilling the Great Commission—evangelizing people of all ages and discipling believers toward deeper maturity in Christ. Frontier Camp offers a dual ministry: during the summer, we host a 10-week youth camp, and throughout the rest of the year, we serve as a retreat facility for churches and like-minded religious organizations. Whether through summer camps or retreats, our goal remains the same: to expose people to Christ and encourage their spiritual growth through His Word and by reflecting His character in everything we do. While we provide top-notch recreation and exciting programming, the heart of our camp is the spiritual impact, rooted in the truth of God’s inerrant Word.
Camp Cedar has proudly upheld the values of camp and community that its founders established 66 years ago. Bill and Sheila Hacker, along with Henry Hacker and Henry Lesser, opened the original camp in 1954 with just 37 kids. Over the years, they built up the camp facilities with a true labor of love. Now, Camp Cedar is a thriving camp with 270 boys ages 8-15 enjoying the summer together. Camp Cedar is the perfect size, offering all the options of a larger camp while still being able to individualize each camper’s experience. Taking a walk to the campfire, visitors can witness the values of camp and community that have been proudly upheld since the camp’s inception. The dedication of Bill and Sheila Hacker, Henry Hacker, and Henry Lesser has created a lasting legacy that continues to enrich the lives of campers each summer.
