Kansas, the Sunflower State, is one fascinating place. It's as flat as a pancake, so flat that if you dropped a marble there, it'd probably roll for a week! But don't let that fool you, there's so much to see and do. It has fields of wheat that dance with the wind, making it look like a golden ocean, and of course, the biggest sunflowers you've ever seen. But the coolest thing about Kansas is the tree planting activity that kids participate in every year. The kids in Kansas are not your everyday type of kids, oh no! They're tree planting superheroes! Their secret power? Turning bare spaces into magical forests, one tree at a time. Leading their brigade is an imaginary character, Captain Green Thumb. Captain Green Thumb is a funny guy who has a magical shovel that never gets dirty and never breaks, no matter how many trees he plants. His thumb isn't really green, but the kids pretend it is because everything he touches seems to sprout into a beautiful tree! These tree-planting superheroes, under the guidance of Captain Green Thumb, march out in their bright green gloves and sturdy boots, ready to conquer the day. They dig holes, plant saplings, and water them, all while chattering and laughing. You'll see them making funny faces at stubborn little trees that take too long to pop out of the ground and sometimes even doing a tree-growing dance that Captain Green Thumb swears makes the trees grow faster! Every year, the kids of Kansas look forward to this special mission, making their state greener and cooler, one tree at a time.
