Aloha! Welcome to the sunny, surf-loving state of Hawaii, where the beaches sparkle like tinsel and the grass skirts sway in the wind. It is a group of islands where palm trees dance and leis of vibrant flowers drape around the necks of the friendly locals, like the rainbow hula hoops of the sky! Here in Hawaii, we have a lively group of kids who take part in a rather unusual activity, printmaking. These aren't your regular, run-of-the-mill children, oh no! They are the Printmaking Poi Pounders and they're as unique as a pineapple growing on a coconut tree! Led by their quirky captain, Kani the Kooky Kapa Artist, a charming character with a magical touch. Kani wears a pair of rainbow flip-flops that fwoop-fwoop in the wind, a shirt covered in splotches of paint, and a hat that’s been dipped in so many colors it could easily be a chameleon. Every Saturday, the Printmaking Poi Pounders gather on the shores of the Wacky Waikiki Beach, under the shade of a colossal canary-yellow umbrella. They use everything from coconut shells to fish bones, creating wild, wacky, and wonderful prints. Their laughter echoes across the beach as they dip, stamp, and smoosh. Sometimes, their prints even come alive, twisting and twirling off the paper to join the traditional luau! So, if you're ever in the fantastic state of Hawaii, look out for the Printmaking Poi Pounders. You might just see a hula-dancing turtle print or a surfing pineapple design! With Kani and the gang, you never know what funny, fantastical creations will come to life next!
