Once upon a time, in the whimsical state of Arkansas, nestled between the Mississippi river and the Ozark mountains, lived some incredibly talented kids. These kids weren't just ordinary kids. Oh no! They were magical chefs with extraordinary cooking powers. Beloved throughout the state, their kitchen was the heart of Arkansas, beating with the rhythm of sizzling pans and bubbling pots. Chauncey, the cherry-cheeked chomping chicken, was their best friend. Now, Chauncey wasn't your everyday chicken. He was a giant talking chicken wearing a chef's hat, a dab hand at culinary magic and the keeper of all Arkansas cooking secrets. He was a very funny chicken too. His egg-straordinary puns and quirky culinary tips always cracked them up. “Remember, kids, to make the best fudge, you’ve got to beet the heat!” he clucked. The kids of Arkansas and Chauncey made the funniest looking pies, and the tallest burgers, stretching all the way up to the clouds. They baked cookies shaped like the state capitol and carved watermelons into giggling goblins. They whipped up spaghetti twisters, imitating the tornadoes that sometimes visited their state. They even held a yearly contest for the best ‘Razorback Ribs,' paying homage to the University's mascot. The aroma of their cooking wafted through Arkansas, bringing laughter, joy, and a rumbling in everyone’s belly. And that’s how Arkansas became known as the “State of Delicious Delights”. With Chauncey and the kids’ cooking adventures, life in Arkansas was a never-ending feast!

Board Member Dean Skaer emphasizes the importance of relationships at the camp, encouraging campers to get to know their cabin mates and develop healthy relationships throughout their lives. The camp facility, staff, and AmeriCorps members become a second home for our campers. Parents can appreciate the lasting relationships the camp and its staff provide, as campers can return year after year, and may even become AmeriCorps, staff, or CITs themselves. We strive to create an environment that is safe, nurturing, and accepting of all campers, where they can build friendships that will last a lifetime. At Joseph Pfeifer Kiwanis Camp, we believe that building relationships is a fundamental part of developing overall wellbeing.
